greenwashing presentation
In my greenwashing presentation, I explored the sustainability claims of major brands like H&M, Zara, Nike, and Lululemon, highlighting the discrepancies between their environmental messaging and actual practices.
H&M and Zara, known for fast fashion, often promote their "sustainable" collections, but both brands rely heavily on mass production and low-cost labor, which undermines their environmental claims. Nike, while making strides in using recycled materials, faces criticism for its overall production practices, including excessive waste and emissions. Lululemon, though more transparent in its sustainability efforts, has been called out for overestimating the impact of its initiatives, especially regarding the sourcing of materials and supply chain practices.
The presentation emphasized how these brands use vague terms and selective marketing to appear more sustainable than they truly are, a tactic known as greenwashing. The takeaway was the importance of scrutinizing sustainability claims and demanding more transparency from companies.
